$350,000 Settlement For Young Woman living with an undiagnosed spinal tumor
A young woman started experiencing sharp pain running down her leg. The pain got worse and worse. She went to the emergency room which referred her to another hospital and then a neurologist who prescribed medicine for nerve pain but provided no definitive diagnosis for the source of the pain. Over the course of several years, our client saw numerous specialists. No answers. Her pain increased to the point where she had to drop out of school. The pain kept her up all day and night. Her only relief was a hot shower.
Often an injury or deformity in the lumbar spine (low back) can press on a nerve causing nerve pain running down the leg. In our client’s case she had a schwannoma (a noncancerous tumor) growing in her spinal cord. An MRI of the lumbar spine would have detected the tumor. Unfortunately, her doctors did not order this test until more than three years after she first went to the ER for nerve pain. Fortunately, after discovering the tumor, our client had surgery to remove the tumor. Since surgery, she has worked incredibly hard to regain strength and mobility lost. She obtained her GED, is working full time, and making up for lost time with friends and family. We are extremely proud of the recovery she has made and looking forward to her bright future!
