Parenting Seminars

Share

Divorce can be difficult for people with children.  You have your own feelings about the divorce, which can run the gamut: anger, frustration, relief, sadness, fear, confusion, hope, guilt, or anxiety.  Your children also have feelings, and will naturally look to you for answers.  Divorcing parents frequently find themselves forced to help their children grieve the break-up of the family while they are still processing it themselves – all while trying to create a workable arrangement with a spouse whom they may or may not be fond of at the moment.

Not everyone handles this transition gracefully.  To help parents navigate this process, Uniform Superior Court Rule 24.8 gives counties the authority to create and require attendance in parenting seminars in certain domestic relations cases.  (Note: You do not need to attend the seminar with the other parent.)

Although everyone groans at the thought of a government-mandated class, many of attorney Christie Ayotte’s clients have reported that the class was actually helpful to them in thinking through new issues they had not considered, and in putting their children’s interests first.
